"Overwhelming" response to Salford Proms in the Park
03/07/2008
There is growing excitement about singer Russell Watson's homecoming performance with the BBC Philharmonic in Salford, according to the city council.
Some 1,400 tickets for Proms in the Park in Salford were sold within the first hour when they went on sale at the end of June.
An extra 4,000 tickets for the event which takes place on September 13th have been made available to Salford residents at a special price of £7.50.
Meanwhile, full price tickets for non-Salfordians are on sale at £20.
Councillor Barry Warner said: "We are overwhelmed by the response of Salford residents to this event."
In September, Salford agreed to sponsor the BBC Philharmonic in a £20 million deal, which will see the orchestra move from its Manchester headquarters to the new mediacity hub at Salford Quays in 2011.
The internationally-renowned orchestra has been branded with the phrase, 'Making music IN Salford'.
