Gorton residents asked to clean up graffiti

Gorton residents are being offered non-hazardous graffiti-removal kits to help them keep their community clean and tidy as part of Respect Action week.

The kits are easy to use and will help residents remove graffiti as soon as it appears on buildings, door and public spaces.

Manchester city council believes the kits will encourage residents to show some pride in their area.

Councillor Jim Battle said that research shows that if graffiti is removed quickly, then the site is less likely to be targeted again.

"This is an easy, simple way residents can take control and make a real difference to their community," he added.

According to regeneration agency New East Manchester, previous Respect Action weeks have resulted in a 50 per cent reduction in crime and anti-social behaviour.

There have already been Respect Action activities in Harpurhey, Crumpsall, Cheetham, Beswick, Newton Heath and Collyhurst.
