Launch day for Manchester in Bloom
07/05/2008
Communities across the city of Manchester are being called upon to help ensure this year's Manchester in Bloom is a big success.
The city council is launching the annual competition today (May 7th) and residents and businesses are urged to plant trees, flowers and shrubs.
Last year, 37 Manchester in Bloom projects won awards at the North West in Bloom awards, a significant increase on the three prizes in 2004.
Councillor Eddy Newman said: "The success of last year's event was richly deserved and reflects the amazing effort, energy and care which went into producing those high quality entries.
"I hope Manchester residents are as keen to take up the challenge this year, and perhaps even take more awards for the city."
Anyone interested in getting involved in Manchester in Bloom should contact the city council's environmental campaigns team on 0161 953 2410.
The North West in Bloom awards take place over a two-day period in October at the Liverpool Arena.
