Manchester's green spaces receive multiple awards

Some 27 green spaces in the city of Manchester have been placed on the Civic Trust's list of best parks in England and Wales.

In fact, it is the third year in a row that Manchester has received the most Green Flag Awards.

The Green Flag Award scheme began in 1996 and is the national standard for parks and green spaces.

Among the winning green spaces are Crowcroft Park in Longsight, Cringle Fields in Levenshulme, Parsonage Gardens in the city centre, Chorlton Water Park, Baguley Park and Platt Fields Park in Fallowfield.

Moreover, Heaton Park was also named as a Green Heritage site winner for the second year.

Councillor Mike Amesbury said: "This is a great acknowledgement to the council staff and the community groups who maintain and improve our parks."

The city council will collect six Green Flag Awards at an event in Liverpool Arena and Convention Centre today.
