Police give fake goods to charity
19/11/2008
People in need will receive a share of Greater Manchester Police's latest haul of counterfeit goods.
The fake goods were seized by police in Strangeways where more than £10 million worth of goods had been found over the last 12 months.
Clothing will be re-labelled and sized at charity His Church, which will distribute items to people in war zones and humanitarian agencies.
PC Steven Dixon said: "It's great news for us to see that all this hard work has paid off as all the clothes seized are now going to a very worthwhile cause."
The police team from Cheetham and Crumpsall worked with officials from Trading Standards to tackle illegal trading.
Officers handed over more than 11 containers of counterfeit sportswear to the charity in Leeds.
Anyone with information about counterfeit goods or any other crime has been asked to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or to neighbourhood officers via www.gmp.police.uk.
His Church is a religious organisation aimed at improving the lives of people in need.
