Pupils look round former Maine Road site
09/10/2008
Schoolchildren have been shown round the site of a new primary school in the Moss Side area of Manchester.
The educational facility is being developed on the site of the former Manchester City football ground and is set to open next year.
Bishop Bilsborrow RC Primary and St Edwards RC Primary are merging to form the new Maine Road school, and pupils have been invited to have an early look.
Paddy Heneghan, head of St Edwards, commented: "Everybody is looking forward to moving next year.
"Children and staff are excited about having a brand new building with extensive school grounds and a variety of spaces for play and recreation."
Councillor Sheila Newman added that the school will offer "state of the art" teaching and learning facilities, making it an "invaluable" asset to the region.
The Maine Road site was previously home to Manchester City's stadium, which they occupied between 1923 and 2003.
