Salford opens ice rink
28/11/2008
Salford plans to provide "light relief" from the credit crunch this Christmas by providing an ice rink double the size of last year's.
The facility will open at Salford Civic Centre from December 9th to January 10th with tickets on sale shortly, priced from £4.
More than 7,000 people skated on the provision last year, which has been increased in size to hold 100 people.
Leader of Salford city council John Merry said that the decision to open the ice rink had been the subject of considerable debate.
"I'm a strong believer in this council not only providing services, but also events and activities that foster pride in the city and community spirit," he added.
He remarked that it could add to the city's accolades, after a successful Proms in the Park and Salford Food and Drink Festival where bakers tried to break the record for baking the world's biggest Eccles cake.
