Tony Wilson Experience line-up confirmed
27/03/2008
An event being held in memory of Salford-born music mogul Tony Wilson has attracted several big names, it has emerged.
Comedian and actor Steve Coogan and broadcaster Mark Radcliffe are two of the stars that have pledged their support to this summer's Reification - the Tony Wilson Experience.
Other creative types include New Order bassist Peter Hook, artist Liam Spencer, record sleeve designer Peter Saville and architect Ben Kelly.
The 24-hour event, which starts at 12:00 BST on June 21st, is being billed as Manchester's longest intelligent conversation. It will take place before a selected audience of up to 200 young people from across the city-region.
Sir Richard Leese, leader of Manchester city council, said: "Tony Wilson gave a lot to Manchester and was always fiercely proud both of his northern roots and the talent that came out of the city.
"In recognition of this the Tony Wilson Experience is designed to stimulate, inspire and engage the next generation of cultural innovators from Manchester."
Wilson, who was the founder and manager of the Hacidenda nightclub and a tireless promoter of the Manchester cultural scene, died on August 10th 2007 from a heart attack.
