Brown let off with fine and warning over misconduct
19/11/2008
Hull City manager Phil Brown has been fined £1,000 and warned as to his future conduct by the Football Association over his behaviour against Wigan earlier this season.
The Tigers boss admitted an FA charge of improper conduct after he appeared to make an obscene gesture towards referee Michael Jones during his side's 5-0 home defeat to the Latics on August 30th.
Pictures also showed Brown prowling up and down the sidelines during a frustrating afternoon for his men, before kicking a waterbottle that accidentally struck the fourth official.
In handing down their judgement on the offence, the FA said there were several mitigating circumstances which led them to limit Brown's punishment.
His slap on the wrists and relatively small fine comes just 24 hours after they handed Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson a two-match touchline ban for a similar offence.
But in a statement, the FA's regulatory commission said: "In reaching its decision, the commission took into account Brown's admission of the charge, his immediate apology to the match officials and the steps Hull City have taken to ensure there will be no repeat."
