Double injury boost for Man United

11/10/2008

Owen Hargreaves and Michael Carrick are set to return to action for Manchester United next week.

The pair missed England's 5-1 win over Kazakhstan today due to injury but will be included in the United squad for next Saturday's clash with West Bromwich Albion.

Carrick has missed the last six games after suffering an ankle injury in last month's defeat to Liverpool at Anfield, while Hargreaves has had tendonitis problems since signing from Bayern Munich last year.

The Canadian-born midfielder has played just three games this season but could start against the Baggies in the evening kick-off at Old Trafford.

Sir Alex Ferguson said the midfield duo will return to training next week.

"We are expecting Michael to be available next week," Ferguson told the Manchester Evening News.
"He is almost back to full training now.

"Owen is much better and we will pencil him in for the West Brom game without question."

The news is a huge boost for the Premier League champions as Paul Scholes is out until at least December with a knee injury.

Despite the absence of Carrick and Hargreaves, United have won their last four games and lie eighth in the league table.
