Harry Potter star 'not a celebrity'
25/06/2007
Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe has insisted that he does not consider himself a massive star.
The teenager was speaking ahead of the release of the fifth film in the enormously-popular Harry Potter franchise; subtitled the Order of the Phoenix.
Next month promises to be a momentous one for Radcliffe personally, with the film's general release on July 12th being followed by the publication of the final book in the Harry Potter series on July 23rd, which in turn precedes his 18th birthday by two days.
The 17-year-old has already built up a massive fan-base and multi-million pound fortune during his four-film stint as the eponymous boy wizard, and earlier this year earned rave reviews for his West End debut in controversial play Equus.
But at a press conference in London promoting the Order of the Phoenix film he said: "I don't consider myself a celebrity; because I've known me all my life."
On his non-celebrity lifestyle and why he has so far shunned the showbiz party scene he added: "What I love doing is acting, rather than all the stuff that goes with it."
In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, director David Yates says that the young Gryffindor wizard's "fight against his dark side" takes centre stage as he is forced to accept the connection he shares with his evil nemesis Lord Voldemort.
