Liverpool swoop for French hotshot
24/07/2008
Liverpool have completed their fourth signing of the summer with the arrival of French teenager David Ngog.
The 19-year-old has arrived from Paris St Germain for a fee of around £1.5 million.
The striker, who has signed a four-year-deal at Anfield, has been billed by the Reds as "one of the brightest young talents in French football".
And the club insisted on Thursday that his tally of just one goal from 18 league appearances in Ligue 1 last season was down to PSG's disappointing form.
"The lightning quick forward has scored goals at every youth level for France," a Reds statement said, "including two absolute corkers against England under-19s last season."
Ngog is the cousin of former Newcastle United defender Jean-Alain Boumsong.
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has already signed full-backs Andrea Dossena and Philipp Degen, as well as goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri since the end of last season.
But he has been frustrated in his bid to bring in the captains of Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur Gareth Barry and Robbie Keane.
