Wrestler Abdusalomov collapses after winning silver medal
21/08/2008
Tajikistani wrestler Yusup Abdusalomov collapsed on his way to a news conference after winning a silver medal in the men's 84kg freestyle.
Abdusalomov, who lost the gold medal match to Georgia's Revazi Mindorashvili, tried in vain to regain his strength and was led away by medical staff for treatment.
In a one-sided final, Mindorashvili, narrowly lost the first round but dominated the second with three takedowns and had two pushouts and a takedown in the third to claim the gold, while Ukraine's Taras Janko and Russia's Georgy Ketoev took bronze.
Elsewhere, Russian Shirvani Muradov won the gold in the 96kg event by beating Kazakhstan's Taimuraz Tigiev. The bronze medals went to George Gogshelidze of Georgia and Khetag Gazyumov of Azerbaijan.
Artur Taymazov of Uzbekistan won the 120kg tournament after overpowering Russia's Bakhtiyar Akhmedov. Slovakia's David Misulbes and Kazakhstan's Murad Mutalimov took home the bronze medals.
