Honour for Manchester academic
21/08/2008
An academic at the University of Manchester has been recognised by experts for his work in developing a new material.
Dr Koysta Novoselov is the man behind graphene - a substance which is only one atom thick and has excited physicists and analysts across the globe.
As a result of his efforts, he has been recognised by Technology Review magazine with an entry into the TR35, a list of the most innovative scientists below the age of 35.
Dr Novoselov was selected by a panel of experts ahead of more than 300 other nominees.
Jason Pontin, editor of the publication, commented: "The TR35 honours young innovators for accomplishments that are poised to have a dramatic impact on the world as we know it."
Dr Novoselov added that working on developing graphene over the last few years has been "fantastic fun".
Technology Review magazine has been honouring young scientists in this manner for the last nine years.
The list includes people who work in fields as diverse as nanotechnology, medicine, electronics and computing.
