Olympic cycle heroes return
02/09/2008
People were able to test their pedal power against an Olympic gold medal champ on Saturday.
Cyclist Chris Hoy was one of the athletes to star at the Nocturne race around Salford Quays.
The closest man and women to his 500-metre time were presented with medals by the Beijing star.
Visitors were also invited to see a race between two Olympic giants Ed Clancy and Geraint Thomas.
Hoy also took on the pedal power of former England football international Geoff Thomas.
More than 5,000 people turned up to celebrate the heroes' return.
Hoy told Road Cycling UK: "It's fantastic that Salford has been able to put on such a top event. Sport can be real inspiration for people and it's great to see so many people enjoying this event right on their doorsteps."
If you missed out on Salford's special welcome back for the Olympic cycle team, don't worry there are plenty more events going on as part of the city's festival of cycling.
