Bolt going for double gold in Beijing
02/08/2008
Usain Bolt has confirmed that he will take part in both the 100m and 200m at the Olympics in Beijing.
Glen Mills, coach of the 21-year-old Jamaican, confirmed that Bolt will compete in both events.
Bolt is the 100m world-record holder and his participation in the event at Beijing sets up a mouthwatering showdown with former 100m world record holder Asafa Powell, along with American world champion Tyson Gay.
Bolt took the 100m record from Powell when he ran a stunning 9.72 seconds in New York on May 31st.
Powell then defeated Bolt last month in Stockholm in their final meeting before the Games.
Bolt then laid down his credentials by winning both the 100m and 200m at the London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace last month.
At the time Bolt was unsure whether he would compete in both in Beijing.
"Looking to Beijing, I think I have a good chance in the 200m and 100m - I'd love to do both but it's up to my coach," he said.
Mills has now given his approval to the Jamaican's pursuit of double glory.
