British duo make 400m final
27/08/2007
Nicola Sanders and Christine Ohuruogu will both represent Great Britain in Wednesday's 400m final at the World Championships in Osaka, Japan.
With both athletes posting personal best times, the 400m final will include two British women for the first time in history.
Ohuruogu completed her fight-back from a 12-month suspension to win her semi-final in a time of 50.16.
The one-lap specialist was banned from competitive competition last year after failing to attend three doping tests.
Sanders won her semi-final with a time of 49.77, which marks only the fourth occasion where a British athlete has achieved a sub-50 time in the event.
"I was injured earlier in the season and it wasn't going great," the 24-year-old said.
"I'm just coming into some form, so to run a PB [personal best] and get into the final is fantastic.
"The main event is in two day's time so I have to got to get ready for that now," she added.
Meanwhile, British medal hopes in the men's triple jump have been dashed as Phillips Idowu finished sixth in the final.
The Commonwealth Games champion posted a distance of 17.09m, falling short of the 17.74m winning leap from Portugal's Nelson Evora.
