Chambers starts in style
07/08/2006
Dwain Chambers has got his European Championships campaign off to the perfect start with an impressive victory in his first round heat.
Britain's fastest 100m sprinter, returning from a two-year drug suspension, clocked a time of 10.24secs en route to first place in heat four.
And, in more positive news for Team GB, Chambers will be joined in this evening's second round heats by his two fellow British sprinters.
Mark Lewis-Francis, desperate to restart his stalled career, strolled to victory in heat three by registering a decent time of 10.37secs, while Tyrone Edgar had previously won the competition's opening heat in 10.32secs.
Frenchman Ronald Pognon, one of the favourites for the gold this week, eased to the line in heat two in 10.26secs.
Meanwhile, British shot putter Carl Myerscough has slipped to an early exit from this year's championships after he failed to progress from the morning qualifying.
