Radcliffe to defend NYC title
01/10/2008
Great Britain's Paula Radcliffe has confirmed her intention to defend her title at the New York marathon next month.
After winning the most prestigious distance race in the United States in 2007, however, the 34-year-old suffered the disappointment of a series of injuries and a 23rd place finish in the Beijing Olympics.
But she said she is "really looking forward to returning to the New York marathon", a title that she also won in 2004.
"New York has always been very special to me and every time I return it becomes more special," she added.
Radcliffe's triumph last year was made all the more remarkable as it was achieved just ten months after she had given birth to her first child.
However, the Scot's preparations this year have been far more conventional with a regular training regime and an as-yet-unscheduled warm-up event sometime this month.
