Audley bates battle of Britons

06/12/2005

Audley Harrison has vowed once again to pull out all the stops in his heavyweight battle with Danny Williams at London's ExCel Arena this Saturday.

The two British boxers have been at loggerheads in the build-up to the fight with scything comments raining in from both camps.

And it is Harrison, the 2000 Olympic gold medallist, who has launched the latest tirade, slamming his opponent for employing illegal and unsportsmanlike tactics.

But A-Force, cruelly dubbed Ordinary Harrison by the media, insists Williams' tactics will not derail his efforts and that he is prepared to brawl if necessary.

"Danny's thrown low blows in a lot of his fights but you do what you've got to do," Harrison said.

"I'm a clean athlete, but, whatever it takes, I'll incorporate all my talents and my full arsenal on Saturday night.

"If that means tying him up, if that means warring with him, if it means boxing, whatever he brings to the table, I've got an answer for."

Harrison has an impeccable 19-0 record since turning pro but has been widely criticised for fighting hand-picked opponents, which resulted him in relocating camp to the US, where he has similarly failed to establish a fan base.

And at 34 years of age, he is two years older than Williams and will be up against a fighter who, for all his critics, did beat an ageing Mike Tyson and went nine rounds with the now retired Vitali Klitschko, who was the best fighter in the division.
