Barrera out to end doubts
16/09/2006
WBC super-featherweight champion Marco Antonio Barrera has said he will beat Rocky Juarez in Las Vegas tonight to end all the controversy which surrounded their previous fight.
The Mexican met Juarez four months ago but after the title fight was deemed a draw by judges, one judge said he had miscounted and the bout was awarded to Barrera.
The result was seen as a bit of a shock after the American had dominated much of the fight but Barrera insisted he will set the record straight when they meet for the second time.
"I am coming to win the fight and win the fight clean - no controversy, no nothing," Barrera told Sky Sports.
"It's necessary that I win this fight because the last time I fought him, I didn't like all that controversy. If I've lost, I've lost and if I've won, I've won - without controversy."
Barrera had agreed to a rematch immediately after the first fight and the bout has been eagerly anticipated since.
Juarez was upset by what happened last time but he insisted he bears no grudges and he is fully focussed on winning the fight.
"There's going to be no surprises as everyone knows what I have to do," Juarez said.
"I have to be more aggressive and take the fight to him. I've got to come and take the belt from the champion."
Barrera has won 62 of his 66 professional fights over an 11-year period, while Juarez has lost only twice in 27 fights, including the previous bout with Barrera.
