Calzaghe to quit next year
26/12/2007
Boxing superstar Joe Calzaghe has revealed he may retire after his next fight.
The 35-year-old is set to clash with Bernard Hopkins, 42, at light-heavyweight next year.
Jermain Taylor, who has twice defeated Hopkins, and Ronald Winky Wright have both expressed interest in fighting Calzaghe.
But the Welshman admits he cannot see himself fighting more than two more bouts.
"I might even have one more and then decide to pack it all in and then get on with the rest of my life. Who knows?," Calzaghe told the Daily Mirror newspaper.
"There are plenty of other things I want to do. My next fight could definitely be my last.
"I don't want to fight on for money. That's not the right motivation. I've achieved almost everything I wanted to achieve.
"I need to have a goal, like Hopkins. It has to be something big to motivate me."
Talks have started between Calzaghe's promoter, Frank Warren, and Hopkins' camp over a fight in Las Vegas in April.
Calzaghe had a sensational 2007 with wins over Jeff Lacy and Dane Mikkel Kessler.
The WBC, WBA and WBO super-middleweight champion, who remains unbeaten in 44 fights, was named the BBC Sports Personality of the Year earlier this month.
