Camp Mayweather lay into Hatton
20/11/2007
Roger Mayweather, trainer and uncle of Floyd Mayweather, has raised the tension in the build-up to his nephew's clash with Ricky Hatton.
Mayweather senior insisted that Hatton's career was built on little more than hype and that his high-tempo style hid a lack of technique.
"Hatton is nothing more than a high-profile club fighter and the only way he's got this reputation now is that he beat Kostya Tszyu, and that was a very even fight," he said.
"He got away with all kinds of stuff over there [in Manchester] and he won't get away with it over here.
"What's he going to do? He's going to bring his face because that's the only chance he's got."
The December 8th fight will be contested at welterweight, a division higher than the majority of Hatton's 43 unanswered wins have come at.
However the Manchester fighter's corner have been talking confidently of their man's preparations for the fight and trainer Billy Graham has warned Mayweather that he will have to go toe-to-toe with Hatton at some point in their clash.
"Floyd will have to meet Ricky in the trenches and he won't be able to get on his toes," Graham said.
"Ricky's not just a pressure fighter, he's blessed with the same attributes Floyd's blessed with."
