Corrales to meet Castillo again

04/12/2005

Diego Corrales and Jose Luis Castillo will meet for the third time in February to continue their fierce lightweight rivalry which spawned one of the greatest fights of all time.

Both their previous match-ups have been memorable, the second for the wrong reasons, but it was announced yesterday that Corrales/Castillo III will go ahead on February 4th.

Their first encounter, in May, is talked about as one of the greatest fights ever after Corrales recovered from being knocked down twice in the tenth round to stop Castillo to add the WBC title to his WBO crown.

However, their second bout back in October was marred by controversy as Castillo failed to make the weight, one of his trainers was suspended for trying to tamper with the scales, and a non-title match was agreed instead.

That fight saw Castillo win with a fourth round knockout so at one fight each, both boxers will be looking to claim superiority.

"I said after the last fight that if they wanted to make this like the 'Rocky' movie series, I did not care as I will fight Corrales five or six times," Castillo said.

The champion Corrales also confirmed that he was ready for the fight, at a venue which is currently undecided, and has put the controversy which marred the second bout behind him.

"The past is the past and now we have each won once, I cannot wait until February 4th," Corrales said.
