Fresh driving ban for Khan
07/01/2008
UK boxer Amir Khan has been fined £1,000 and banned from driving for 42 days after being found guilty of speeding.
Rochdale magistrates court heard how he had reportedly driven at more than 140mph on the M62 near Manchester on New Year's Eve 2006.
Khan, 21, had denied the charge, but admitted during his trial he may have exceeded the speed limit of 70mph.
District Judge Pamela Baldwin said there was insufficient evidence to prove the Bolton-born fighter had driven at more than 100mph.
This is despite the testimony of a police officer in court who claimed his speedometer was "off the clock" at 155mph when he pursued Khan in his BMW 360i two years ago.
Khan is already barred from driving after having his licence suspended for six months in October 2007.
The ban came after he sped through a red light in the wrong lane and broke a pedestrian's leg.
Away from the road and in the ring, Khan is due to fight Denmark's Martin Kristjansen at the beginning of February as he bids for his 16th straight victory.
