Harrison cleared to fight

21/11/2006

Troubled WBO featherweight champion Scott Harrison has been passed fit to defend his title against Nicky Cook on December 9th.

The fight was thrown into doubt when Harrison was held by Spanish police for questioning over an assault and robbery in the coastal town of Malaga.

However having secured bail after five weeks in custody and undergone extensive British Boxing Board of Control (BBBC) tests Harrison's London Excel contest is back on the card.

"Following consideration of a number of medical reports received, boxer Scott Harrison has been cleared to proceed with his contest against Nicky Cook scheduled for the Excel Arena on Saturday, December 9," confirmed a BBBC spokesperson.

Harrison has struggled with depression that has caused fights to be delayed in the past and the WBO had threatened to strip him of his belt after his latest indiscretion.

However Barry Hughes, Harrison's manager, is certain that the boxing authority's approval is a mere formality after the results for his charge's tests.

"They will be sent the medical reports and obviously they will pass him seeing as they are perfect. From where it was four weeks ago to where we stand is remarkable," he said.
