Harrison defeated after poor showing

15/04/2006

Audley Harrison lost a unanimous points decision after a poor display against Dominick Guinn in California.

The 34-year-old heavyweight has been trying to establish himself in the States but his career is in danger of fizzling out after a subdued performance against Gunn.

Gunn had lost three of his last five fights but took advantage of Harrison's lack of aggression to record Harrison's second professional defeat of his career.

The former Olympic champion was fighting for the first time since he lost to Danny Williams in London last year.

He looked sluggish in the opening rounds and this continued throughout much of the fight as he failed to break out.

30-year-old Guinn did enough to see off the challenge and was the unanimous victor among the judges.

Guinn had at one time been seen as a rising star in the boxing world but has suffered in the last two years and it was only his second win since he lost his first fight of his professional career back in March 2004.

The defeat has put Harrison's career in jeopardy, especially in America, and many observers believe that he will now struggle to get the fights he needs to progress in his career.
