Hatton and Castillo at weight limit

23/06/2007

Ricky Hatton and Jose Luis Castillo were both at the 140lb limit at the weigh-in for their light welterweight bout in Las Vegas tonight.

In the past Castillo has had trouble making the weight before a fight and his bout with Diego Corrales last year had to be turned into a non-title bout for that reason.

Earlier in the week Hatton had threatened to pull out of the contest altogether if Castillo did not make the weight.

Hatton has had weight issues of his own, having to work furiously to lose poundage he puts on between bouts, something experts believe he cannot keep doing as his career progresses.

The weigh-in at the Thomas and Mack Centre was attended by around 2,000 British fans who are in Vegas to support 'The Hitman'.

After tipping the scales at 140lbs Hatton said to his adoring fans: "Let's do a job on him".

The Hitman added: "I think it's going to be fireworks. It's the best of my 42 fights - it's even buried the Kostya Tszyu fight."

Wayne Rooney is expected to join the army of travelling fans supporting Hatton at the fight which is for the IBO and WBC titles.

The Manchester fighter is unbeaten in 42 contests though he has struggled to impress in his last two fights, winning on points against Juan Urango and Luis Collazo.

Castillo has won 55 fights, lost seven and drawn one in his 17 year career. In January he won his last bout against Herman Ngoudjo on a split decision.
