Hatton out to shock Mayweather
27/10/2007
Ricky Hatton says Floyd Mayweather will be shocked by how good he is when the two face off in a welterweight contest in Las Vegas in six weeks.
Hatton says many people, including Mayweather, will think that he has no chance against the five-weight champion, but the Manchester fighter says they could not be more wrong.
In fact Hatton says he has already won the fight thanks to his own conditioning and his opponent underestimating him.
He said: "In my eyes this fight is already even over. I think Floyd is going to get the shock of his life.
"I think he has taken me lightly. I think he just thinks the obvious - I'm a strong kid, high work rate, loads of punches, body punches, I've fought 500 of them. Well I think he's going to get a shock."
The Hitman admits that he has struggled with his weight in previous fights but claims that his current training regime has that well under control.
"I've learnt by my mistakes and I think I'll be better for it, and I'll have to be because he's a five-weight world champion," he told Sky Sports 1.
The 29-year-old said he was already taking part in sparring sessions and was eager to get in the ring and prove Mayweather wrong.
"I've shown in fights that I've got the boxing ability to do it. My power, my angles, my feinting, my moving in quick on opponents, my speed of footwork along with the boxing ability - I just think I know what to do against Floyd Mayweather," he concluded.
