Hatton poised for American dream
13/05/2006
Ricky Hatton has said that he is ready to begin his American dream ahead of his encounter with Luis Collazo in Boston.
The Manchester-born fighter has been criticised in the past for not wanting to fight outside his home city but he has travelled across the Atlantic to try and establish himself in the States.
America is a much more lucrative place for boxers and Hatton insists he is ready to prove he can do the business away from home and has moved up to the welterweight division for the Collazo fight.
"This is the start of my American dream and I definitely feel fitter and stronger at this weight," Hatton said.
"I feel fuller in myself and I am reaping the benefits of three months of training and working with my nutritionist."
Hatton is hoping to become a champion at two different weights when he faces Collazo for the WBA welterweight title.
He believes the step-up has given him a big boost in the power stakes and he is hopeful that the Collazo fight will put him on his way to a fight with Floyd Mayweather.
"I'm sure you are going to see the difference it has made in the ring on Saturday night," Hatton added.
Hatton currently has a 40-0 record in professional boxing and both fighters weighed in on the 10 stone, seven pounds limit yesterday.
