Hatton up for Mayweather return
14/12/2007
Ricky Hatton has suggested he may seek a rematch with WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather despite his defeat in Las Vegas last week.
The Manchester boxer was stopped in the tenth round by the American, whose superior reach and technical ability shone through in the MGM Grand bout.
Hatton received a substantial purse for moving up a weight to meet Mayweather - believed to be the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world for the highly-anticipated 'Undefeated' contest.
And despite many pundits, including several people close to the Hatton camp, suggesting the Briton looked more comfortable at light welterweight, the man himself has still not ruled out the possibility of meeting Mayweather again.
"It depends what fights are offered to me now," Hatton told Sky Sports when asked about his future plans.
"There is talk of the [Oscar] de la Hoya fight, which could be at a catchweight of 10st 10lbs, or a rematch could be in the offing or there are these fights at light-welterweight.
"I just need to sit down with my team and make up my mind."
Hatton claimed that despite suffering the first knockdown of his career against Mayweather he remains "fearless".
He also had few regrets about the tactics he used, at least in the early stages of the fight.
"I think that it was working and up until the sixth-round stage, I think there wasn't a lot in it," he continued.
"Then I lost my way, lost my rag on a few occasions, got a point taken off and when I tried to force the issue, I obviously got knocked out.
"I've got positives to take from the fight but ultimately I'm very, very disappointed. However, like any good champion, I will bounce back."
