Kessler and Beyer both hunting Calzaghe
14/10/2006
Super middleweight champions Mikkel Kessler and Markus Beyer both have Britain's Joe Calzaghe in their sights ahead of their unification bout this evening.
Kessler is the favourite going into the Copenhagen fight and claims that after adding Beyer's WBC crown to his own WBA belt, a clash with the Calzaghe will be unavoidable.
"I would go to England, wherever. I have wanted to fight Calzaghe for a long time," the Danish fighter said.
"He has said about a 1,000 times he wants to fight - but he never does. I am almost as fast as him, maybe even faster."
For his part Beyer has already had one fight against the explosive Welshman indefinitely postponed after an injury.
But the 35-year-old German is confident that a win tonight will put him back on track for an encounter with Calzaghe.
"I'm looking forward to meeting him in the ring," said the veteran
"Should Markus win, our goal is definitely another unification with Calzaghe," confirmed Beyer's promoter Wilfried Sauerland.
Calzaghe himself faces a stiff test this evening as he defends his IBF and WBO titles against the tricky Cameroon Sakio Bika.
