Khan claims quickfire win
18/02/2007
Amir Khan needed just 45 seconds to send Mohammed Medjadi sprawling in their Wembley Arena contest.
The Bolton fighter floored his French opponent in round one with a right-hand swipe, with the referee ending the fight despite the 30-year-old staggering to his feet.
Both men had traded jabs as the first round got underway, but Medjadi appeared off-balance from the bell, with Khan biding his time to deliver the telling strike.
After the match, the 20-year-old admitted he had thrown the best punch of his professional career.
"I'm not going to get paid for overtime," he quipped.
"His balance wasn't the best - every time you could see his left hand was dropping and I timed it perfectly."
The Olympic silver medallist added: "I didn't plan to finish it in the first round, I just came in and caught him with a right hand and he went down. I caught him round the chin and he just dropped."
But things went less well for fellow Briton Graham Earl, who failed to wrestle the world lightweight title from Australian Michael Katsidis.
In an unbelievable first two rounds Earl was floored three times, only for the referee to ignore his corner throwing in the towel.
The 28-year-old then stunned Wembley Arena by sending Katsidis sprawling, but the Queensland fighter retaliated with a flurry of punches in the corner that led to Earl ultimately being withdrawn at the end of the fifth.
