Khan in title fight
07/12/2006
Amir Khan will fight for his first professional title when he takes on Frenchman Rachid at the ExCel Arena in London on Saturday.
Khan's tenth fight will see him take on the 28-year-old for the vacant IBF intercontinental light-welterweight belt.
The Bolton boxer, who shot to prominence after winning silver at the Olympics in 2004, said he was looking forward to the ten-round fight for a belt.
"My other fights so far have just been for the experience for now with a title on the line I will be much more hungry," he said.
"It is great to get this opportunity one day after my 20th birthday. I have been training hard and I am undoubtedly ready for it."
The news will hearten promoters, with planned fights on the Saturday night card at the Docklands site being hit by a series of problems.
Commonwealth champion Matt Skelton has already pulled out of a fight with another former Olympian, Audley Harrison, with Brixton boxer Danny Williams stepping in.
Meanwhile, Scott Harrison has also pulled out, failing to make the weight for his title defence against Nicky Cook after spending time in a Spanish prison.
Harrison, formerly the WBO featherweight champion, was incarcerated following assault charges in Malaga in October.
