Khan relishing Thorpe test
07/12/2005
British boxing star Amir Khan says he cannot wait to get his fourth professional fight underway as he prepares to take on Daniel Thorpe at the ExCel Arena this Saturday.
Khan, who turns 19 tomorrow, has a perfect pro record since signing terms in the summer and is confident that another win this weekend would help him surge closer towards his goal of becoming Britain's youngest ever world champion.
"This will be a tough fight for my fourth [professional] fight but that's what I need to keep me focused and strong," he said today.
"I am confident I can beat him and shoot up the rankings quite quickly. Hopefully this time next year I'll have progressed and become stronger."
Khan has received worldwide acclaim since breaking onto the boxing scene at the Olympics in Athens last summer when he won silver after a narrow defeat to Cuban great Mario Kindelan.
And he hopes he can not only live up to his hype but enhance his reputation as one of the world's best lightweight fighters.
"The promoters like Don King, when he saw me fight, had good things to say," the Bolton lad added.
"Everyone who comes to the venue to see my fights has good words to say. It's going well and it's all going to plan."
