Khan targets America
20/05/2006
Amir Khan has admitted that he wants to follow the lead of Ricky Hatton and move into the American market.
Khan is due to fight in his seventh professional bout tonight in Belfast on what was supposed to be the undercard to Scott Harrison's WBO featherweight defence against Gairy St Claire.
The youngster faces Hungarian Laszlo Komjathi at the King's Hall but he admits that he has set his sights on bigger things, namely conquering the American market.
"I would definitely like to fight in the US soon, some time later this year preferably, to expose myself and show what I can do," Khan told Boxing News.
"My full strength is still to come as with every fight I am getting stronger and more confident."
The Bolton fighter has yet to be truly tested in the professional ring and he will be hoping that Komjathi can provide him with a stern challenge.
Khan admits that he isn't ready for America just yet as he hasn't had the experience in the ring on this side of the pond.
"I do need rounds because that is where you learn when to keep the hands up and when I can get away with dangling them low," Khan added.
"I get a second wind in training and I want to feel that in a fight."
His 30-year-old opponent should provide a good test for Khan, having only been stopped once in his ten-year professional career.
