Maloney end of Harrison patience
23/05/2006
Frank Maloney says that he will no longer put so much effort into looking after troubled boxer Scott Harrison.
The promoter was dismayed that Harrison has left the centre where he was receiving treatment for addiction to alcohol and depression.
The fighter went to the Priory clinic in Glasgow before he was due to fight on Saturday night on the bill with Amir Khan.
Maloney came out in the press defending his boxer and suggested that he would come back strongly. He also booked the athlete into an anonymous facility which he has now walked out of.
The promoter said: "I think I got too involved. I have other fighters that I have been neglecting and my involvement with Scott will now be with boxing only.
"His father [Peter Harrison] says he is now in a safe place in Glasgow. I just hope they realise the seriousness of the situation. I have spent the last ten days completely involved in Scott Harrison's business and his problems. He doesn't seem to want to listen to anybody or take any advice. "
Maloney says that from now on he will leave Harrison's family to deal with his demons as he tries to regain mental and physical health.
