Mayweather vows to deliver victory

03/05/2007

Floyd Mayweather has promised his fans that his unbeaten record will remain firmly intact following his much-hyped clash with Oscar de la Hoya which takes place early Sunday morning British time.

As the two fighters continued an exhaustive promotional tour for the fight, Mayweather stepped up the bravado as the fighters posed for their latest face-to-face staredown.

"I said, 'I'm not worried about you.' I told him he's facing the truth. He's nervous. I see it in his eyes. The eyes tell it all. He is going to be a little shaky. He is nervous," he reported.

Mayweather has accumulated world titles across four different weight divisions with 37 unanswered victories and remains a slight favourite with the bookmakers.

"I will dominate him. Don't be surprised if I stop him. He is a quitter. I've never given up. This best fighter ever is Floyd Mayweather and I'm going to guarantee you a victory."

The fighter's verbal sparring has helped drive the fight close to the record 2 million pay-per-view television sales set by Evander Holyfield's second clash with Mike Tyson.

With the previous mark of £9.6 million for the most money taken at the gate already smashed, the potential profit in a rematch is already tempting Mayweather to renege on his promise to retire whatever the result.

"If the fight is that good, a hell of a fight, yeah we will fight a rematch," he said.
