TUC reveals bosses' earnings
05/08/2006
Workers curious to know what their bosses are earning need wonder no longer following the launching of a new website by the Trades Union Congress (TUC) today.
The worksmart website, found at www.workSMART.org.uk, provides a company search which details the earnings, pensions arrangements and shareholder details of those at director level.
By allowing users of the site to compare the pay increases of their bosses with their own pay rises over the last five years, the TUC believes it has made it much easier for workers to access information which, it claims, is usually "buried in annual reports".
"Most employees in the country will now have freedom to get important information about their company with the click of a mouse rather than digging through company reports, " explained TUC assistant general secretary Kay Carberry.
"The TUC will continue adding to this search tool to give current and prospective employees as much information about UK plc as possible."
In total the website's database covers 7,000 British companies at present, employing "millions of staff" according to the TUC.
