Collingwood takes three wickets in quest for redemption

Paul Collingwood ended a nightmare week with three wickets in Durham's clash with Yorkshire on day one of the County Championship at Headingley Carnegie.

Collingwood was playing for his county today due to his four-match international ban after England's slow over rate in their controversial loss to New Zealand in mid-week.

And the all-rounder showed his worth by taking 3-17, while Liam Plunkett also took three wickets, as Yorkshire were skittled out for 184.

In reply, Collingwood was out for just five as Durham closed on 59-3.

Elsewhere, England hopeful Sajid Mahmood took five wickets as Lancashire seized control against Sussex at home.

Paceman Mahmood took 5-76 as the home side were skittled out for 253, with Andrew Flintoff unlucky to finish without a wicket after bowling 15 overs.

Lancashire are struggling on 67-4 in reply with Jason Lewry taking two wickets.

Elsewhere, skipper Mark Ramprakash made 48 as Surrey reached 251-4 at the close against Kent at the Brit Oval.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Ramprakash was given strong support by Jonathan Batty (70) and Usman Afzaal (57).

Elsewhere, Dimitri Mascarenhas hit 55 as Hampshire were bowled out for 293 against Nottinghamshire at the Rose Bowl.

Mascarenhas hit eight boundaries on his way to a half-century, while Nic Pothas top-scored with 56.

The pick of the Outlaws bowlers was Andrew Adams who finished with 4-63. In reply, Nottinghamshire were 13-0 after six overs at stumps.

In Division Two, Simon Jones took five wickets as Worcestershire dominated the opening day against Leicestershire at Grace Road.

Jones finished with 5-30 as the Foxes were all out for 120, while the visitors were 175-2 in reply with Vikram Solanki unbeaten on 93.

Elsewhere, Ryan Ten Doeschate made an unbeaten ton as Essex piled on 365-7 on the opening day of their clash with Derbyshire at Chelmsford.

Dawid Malan is unbeaten on 121 as Middlesex ended day one on 317-7 against Northamptonshire at Uxbridge.

Gloucestershire are on 190-2 in a rain-affected opening day of their game with Warwickshire at Edgbaston.

New Zealander Hamish Marshall struck an unbeaten 107, with 16 boundaries, while opener William Porterfield made 74.
