07/10/2008
India's Saurav Ganguly has announced his decision to retire from international cricket at the conclusion of the upcoming Test series against Australia.
The former captain and left-handed batsman has said he intends to hang up his gloves this year after 12 years in his country's international setup.
"This is going to be my last series," the 36-year-old told a news conference ahead of the first of the four Tests in Bangalore, which starts on Thursday.
"I have decided to quit - I told my team mates before I came here.
"These four Test matches are to be my last."
Ganguly made his debut for India in 1996 and has gone on to play in 109 Test matches, averaging more than 41 throughout his distinguished career.
