Glenn McGrath's wife dies after cancer battle
22/06/2008
The wife of former Australian fast bowler Glen McGrath has died after a long-term battle with breast cancer.
Jane McGrath, 42, died at her Sydney home with her husband and two children by her side, Cricket Australia confirmed.
A statement declared: "It is with deep sadness that the family and friends of Jane McGrath... must announce she passed away at her home this morning."
Ms McGrath was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1997 and then bone cancer in 2003. She managed to beat both and make a full recovery.
She was then diagnosed for a third time in 2006, leading to McGrath taking eight months away from cricket to care for her and their children.
The fast bowler returned to help Australia whitewash England in the Ashes before announcing his retirement.
His last official game was at the cricket World Cup where he helped Australia win the tournament for the third time and was named player of the tournament.
The McGraths were appointed Members of the Order of Australia earlier this year after setting up a foundation to raise money for breast cancer research.
