Gough rolls back years to guide Yorkshire to victory

26/05/2008

Darren Gough took three wickets as Yorkshire beat Scotland by seven wickets in the Friends Provident Trophy at Headingley.

The paceman, who announced today he was retiring at the end of the season, took 3-40 to help bowl out the visitors for 244.

Yorkshire reached their target inside 41 overs thanks to an unbeaten 105 from Anthony McGrath.

The win moves Yorkshire into second place in the North Division, and boosts their chances of reaching the quarter-finals ahead of Wednesday's clash with leaders Lancashire.

Elsewhere, Chris Read made an unbeaten half-century to help Nottinghamshire to a thrilling one run win over Ireland at Trent Bridge.

The former England wicket-keeper hit 53 while Adam Voges struck 82 as Notts set 242 for victory.

Read then took two catches as Ireland reached 240-6 in their 50 overs, Niall O'Brien making 93 not out.

Elsewhere, a ton from Michael Di Venuto guided Durham to a 117-win over Derbyshire at Riverside.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Di Venuto struck 138 off 135 balls as the Dynamos made 298-7.

In reply, the visitors were skittled out for 181 with Greg Smith top-scoring with 46. Graham Wagg did the most damage taking 5-41 from nine overs.

Elsewhere, Warwickshire defeated Leicestershire by eight runs by the Duckworth-Lewis method at Oakham School.

The Bears made a paltry 187-8 with Tony Frost making 55 while opener Navdeep Poonia hit 45.

Leicestershire were 53-2 after 19.3 overs with the visitors winning by virtue of having a higher run-rate.

The rain again played spoilsport with Hampshire against Glamorgan, Kent versus Middlesex, Somerset against Gloucestershire, and Sussex's clash with Essex abandoned without a ball being bowled. ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18609079-ADNFCR
