IPL warn ECB over Twenty20 Champions League stance

27/07/2008

The head of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has warned the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) over their stalling in backing the Twenty20 Champions League.

IPL chairman Lalit Modi has said that the Twenty20 Champions League will take place with or without English sides.

The ECB is reluctant to give its backing to the tournament in its current format, due mainly to the proposed Champions League ban on players who compete in the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL).

"We have everybody on board going forward, apart from the ECB, who have some reservations in terms of structure and ownership," Modi told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"We will go ahead, with or without the ECB.

"We hope the ECB will be part of it, but if they are unreasonable or unable to adhere to the rules and regulations of the tournament then it will be unfortunate but they will not be able to participate.

"We have a final meeting with our members in Bombay on Wednesday and hope to make an announcement then."
