India's Zimbabwe tour postponed "indefinitely"

08/04/2008

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that the country's proposed one-day series in Zimbabwe has been postponed for the time-being due to fixture-congestion.

Coming at a time of political uncertainty within the African nation, officials have, however, suggested that the three-game tour will take place once the Indian Premier League (IPL) season comes to an end.

BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah said: "The Zimbabwe tour has been put off indefinitely.

"We will have it after the IPL, or we'll try to fit it in at a later time. It is a minor thing."

India will still play in the recently-announced one-day tri-series in Bangladesh in June, just six days after the domestic league finishes, while the national side will also feature in the Asia Cup - to be hosted in Pakistan from June 24th to July 6th - before heading off to tour neighbouring Sri Lanka.

The news comes soon after the head of the England and Wales Cricket Board, David Collier, also cited a hectic international schedule as the reason why it is unlikely that any England players will be featuring in future IPL tournaments.

"The obvious time for the IPL to play is April and May, but that clashes with the start of our international season," he reasoned. ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18543234-ADNFCR
