Jones 'unlikely to play again this season'
19/08/2008
Worcestershire and England fast bowler Simon Jones has been ruled out for the rest of the 2008 season because of his ongoing knee problems.
The 29-year-old suffered a minor recurrence of the knee injury that kept him out of action for around two years between 2005 and 2007.
And although Jones has made significant progress this season, bowling exceptionally well in county cricket, he continues to be slightly hampered by the problem.
This latest setback follows a scan on the former Glamorgan man's knee, which showed he has sustained some cartilage damage that requires an arthroscopy to clean up the joint.
His recovery is expected to take around three or four weeks, meaning he is unlikely to play again before the end of the season.
Worcestershire director of cricket Steve Rhodes said: "Simon has had a wonderful year with 42 first-class wickets at an average of 18.02 and a strike rate of a wicket every 30 deliveries.
"The plan was to have Simon still playing in September. Whilst this has not quite been achieved I am delighted with his contribution and the plan will be to rehab Simon in a way to get him back fitter and stronger for the cricket that lies ahead of him."
