Kiwi fast bowler Shane Bond signs for Hampshire
22/02/2008
New Zealand fast bowler Shane Bond has signed for Hampshire for a period of the forthcoming season.
He will join the Hampshire squad at the beginning of the season in April and play through to the start of the Twenty20 Cup competition in June.
Bond has played 17 tests and 67 one-day games for New Zealand and is regarded as one of the best fast bowlers in world cricket.
Team manager Paul Terry said today: "I'm really excited about the signing of Shane Bond for the start of our season.
"With the very busy international programme going on at this time of the year finding a bowler with his genuine quality that has the time and the desire to play county cricket has been difficult, so I'm delighted that Shane has agreed to join Hampshire," he said.
"He is regarded as one of the best quick bowlers in the world in all forms of the game."
Rose Bowl chairman Rod Bransgrove said that it was fantastic news for the county who could "once again, look forward to enjoying the very best talent the world has to offer".
Australian spinner Shane Warne will return to play for the team in the final part of the season.
