Mascarenhas 'disappointed' by Stanford snub
23/09/2008
Dimitri Mascarenhas has revealed his disappointment at being omitted from the England squad for the money-spinning Stanford Twenty20 match later this year.
The Hampshire skipper arguably justified at least a spot in the squad for the trip to the Caribbean following his good form for club and country in the run-up to the selection announcement.
But he said he was puzzled as to why he was dropped for the first time this year for the game which carried the greatest financial reward of up to £1 million per player for a victory against the Stanford All-Stars XI.
"I've been involved for a year, played every single Twenty20 game in that year and now been left out - it's disappointing," he told inthenews.co.uk.
"You could say I've missed out on the big one."
Mascarenhas also revealed that he had to contact England and Wales Cricket Board chairman of selectors Geoff Miller himself in order to get an explanation as to why he was left out.
The all-rounder revealed that he still felt after discussions with Miller that he was not given an adequate explanation, but denied he should have been selected ahead of relatively recent arrival Samit Patel.
"Patel came in at the start of the season and he's done really well, he's more than warranted his place," Mascarenhas added.
"He's played beautifully; I think he's a very good player. But I still think there's a spot in there for me."
