Middlesex batsman Joyce signs contract at Sussex
05/11/2008
Sussex have completed the signing of Middlesex batsman Ed Joyce on a three-year contract, which will keep him at his new county until at least the end of the 2011 season.
The 30-year-old former Ireland international, who has played in the England limited overs side since 2005, moves to Hove after spending ten successful seasons at Lord's where he averaged almost 45 in first-class matches.
However, Joyce said he feels the switch is necessary for him to win trophies at club level.
"It's my first move and I've put a lot of thought in to it, having had many chats with my wife," he said.
"It hasn't been an easy decision for me, but I believe it's the right move.
"The work ethic of the club, along with their recent successes, have appealed to me for a while now and I'm hoping that these values and achievements will have a positive effect on my cricket.
"I'll be looking to put in some major performances and establish myself at the highest level.
"I'm very excited about the move and am looking forward to helping Sussex continue to be a dominant force is county cricket."
Sussex captain Mike Yardy described Joyce as a "fantastic signing".
"Statistically, he is one of the best batsmen in England. His experience and character will be an excellent addition to the club," he added.
