Middlesex cancel Mumbai flight
27/11/2008
Middlesex have postponed their scheduled flight to Mumbai ahead of the inaugural Twenty20 Cricket Champions League in the wake of last night's bombings in the Indian city.
Terrorists have struck several targets in Mumbai, killing more than 100 people, and hostages have been taken by armed men at some of the city's luxury hotels, including the world famous Taj Mahal Palace hotel.
The Middlesex team were scheduled to open their Champions League campaign against South Africa's Pretoria Titans in Chennai on Friday, with some other matches in the competition set to be played in Mumbai.
However, a brief statement from the English county today reads: "Middlesex's Champions League squad, who were due to fly out to Mumbai this morning, Thursday November 27th, have postponed their flights and are awaiting advice from both the foreign office and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB)."
Middlesex chief executive Vinny Codrington said: "The situation is very fluid and will no doubt change over the next 24 hours.
"Clearly the players' safety is our top priority."
